Did you miss Adult Discipleship on Sunday, 11/13? Doug led a fruitful presentation and discussion on Where Do We Go Now…with eradicating systemic poverty and dismantling structural racism? You can see the Zoom recording here and the slide presentation here. We hope to see you next time!
Here is the class description:
Come to Adult Education for a wide ranging discussion. Where Do We Go Now…with eradicating systemic poverty and dismantling structural racism? Listen, discuss, discern…
Doug Robertson will lead us through some exercises from Do The Work! an Antiracist Activity Book, by W. Kamau Bell & Kate Schatz. You can print the exercises in advance by accessing them here.
We will discuss several items:
- Approval at PCUSA’s 225th General Assembly of Resolutions from the Race and Gender Justice Committee (RGJ-08 and others)
- “Publishing Prejudice: The Oregonian’s Racist Legacy”, a 12 page Special Section published 10/30/22
- The Reconciliation Fund, inspired by a 2019 Georgetown University student referendum, will pay descendants of slaves which were held on the Maryland Jesuit plantations.
- A New York Times article from 10/23/22: “A Tribute to Black Artists…Change for Museums”. Four museums around the country open exciting exhibits which will travel.
As per usual…we will break into small groups and discuss what we want to do as individuals and as a church community…going forward.
